Dennis Crooks Fish Merchants buy as much of the highest quality fresh fish and seafood as possible from the local Whitby and Scarborough fish markets, daily. We are a family owned and run business priding ourselves on the level of service we give our customers along with the exceptional fresh quality of our products. Fresh British fish always comes first, we believe in looking after our fishermen and they will look after us with the prize of the catch.

The Process

1. Customer orders are taken from the answer phones and entered into our state of the art computer sales order system.
2. We hand pick only the very best of the catch at market and from there it is transported in refrigerated vehicles to our modern purpose built premises. Fish is also landed direct to us from various fishing boats around the country.
3. Fish is unloaded into our 'whole fish' intake chill.
4. We telephone customers that wish to be updated on the availability of species from the markets that morning.
5. Orders that have been received are prepared to individual requirements, these show on a touchscreen on the factory floor. Filleting, skinning, boning, scaling, portioning, finning and trimming are all carefully and skilfully carried out by staff with a combined experience of over 150 years, all by hand.
6. Customer prepared fish / seafood is moved to the packing line where it is carefully weighed, iced and boxed. A label automatically produced with the customer name and box contents, finished orders are moved into another chilled area ready for delivery.
7. Finally we deliver direct to your establishment, in most cases with our own temperature controlled vehicles. All produce is fully traceable and we offer a comprehensive service, tailored to each customers needs.

For our MSC Certified seafood we have a very thorough system in place, at every stage of the process 'MSC' fish is kept separated from non-MSC.
